In this scene from Cozy Christmas, snow sits on the mailbox, streetlight and on the tip of tree. This is why the snow effect is so important for creating icy scenes.

STEP 1. Light Blue Baselayer

You'll need three blues and a white acrylic marker for this technique.

Snow sparkles brightly, that's why for this technique we will be using a dabbing technique to build the layers from light to dark

Start with your lightest and brightest blue. Be uneven but concetrate your dabs to where the snow would be thickest.

STEP 2. Repeat with darker blue

Layer 2 of 4.

Dot a darker blue as your next layer, following your origin lighter blue snow pattern.

As we will be adding white highlights, any gaps of blue will blend into the final product to create a bright and sparkly snow effect.

step 3. your brightest blue next

Add dark blue in areas where you want an icy effect. This step is optional and works great for larger areas of snow that would have settled for a while.

The dark blue adds depth and structure to areas and complements perfectly with the final step.

step 4. acrylic white highlights

To finish the snow technique you'll need a white acrylic marker. Acrylics are important here as you'll want to hide the original coloring borders like settled snow often hides the boundary between two objects.

Using small light strokes, evenly cover the entire area of snow. Be patient and keep your strokes small and uniform, this will create a beautiful sparkle across your page once you've finished.
